This is my first go at a ring not sure what the wood is but the super glue coating trick I read about on here works like a champ. Does anyone have a guess at what kind of wood this is?

Hi John,Absolutely beautiful ring and stunning timber. In my humble opinion you have a piece of “Malaysan Blackwood”.Have a look at ‘Islewoods’ from Honolulu on Ebay. I recently purchased two pieces and it looks identical to your piece.
-- Bob, Western Australia, The Sun came up this morning, what a great start to the day. Now it's up to me to make it even better. I've cut this piece of wood 4 times and it's still too damn short.

Stunning. What finish did you use? I am thinking of making my first ring this week.

The finish is super glue it was still wet when I took the picture. It dried a bit darker but I am buffing it out trying to bring the shine back.

Nice ring, John. I use a plastic polish (One Step) on all of my CA finishes (pens, rings, bracelets) and it works wonderfully at bringing the shine back out. Best of luck!
