Rolling Machine Cabinet

Like a lot of Lumberjocks, space is at a premium in my garage/shop, and benchtop tools, though they are a lifesaver, can be a hassle to deal with.

I built this machine cabinet to alleviate some of the problem. It is simple case construction (3/4” plywood), with replaceable flat surfaces (1/4” hardboard for the top, shelves, and drawer bottoms). The face frame, trim, and drawer boxes are nominal lumber right off the shelf at the local lumber yard, and the drawer slides are 100lb capacity to handle weight of tools. etc.

My bandsaw (Craftsman 10”) and drill press (Performax 8”) are bolted to the top. The shelf below accomodates bandsaw blades (coiled and stored in pizza boxes), drill bits, etc. The four drawers afford storage space for the stuff that used to litter my workbench, the the ‘garage’ provides a home for tools stored in carrying cases.

Nice work, I love putting stuff on wheels. how are you liking those particular wheels? I used some like those for my first “on wheels project”, and to tell you the truth I wasn’t too happy with how they worked. I think that spending the extra bucks for the REALLY nice double lock casters might be worth it, we’ll see with my next project.

The wheels I used were only my first choice because I already had them on hand. I picked them up for 5 bucks at a garage sale a couple of years ago. I admit it … I’m cheap!

Vey nice, I am shure you will love it. Anything you can put on wheels is nice when space is limited.

I also have the same problem of a small shop and have put things on casters. I have used the double locking casters from Rockler and love them. I have my portable table saw/jointer on them and it doesn’t move. I should have made mine from wood, it would have been cheaper. I used the shop stand stretchers and legs from Rockler and although it was very strong it also wasn’t cheap. I like yours better.Cheaper in this case is better.

Thanks for your posting, You did a great job!

Nice job! I have a big shop, but I still have things on wheels to get them out of the way.

Nice cabinet! I love the pizza box idea for the bandsaw blades. I think I will have to use that one.

This is really nice. I have a similar size bandsaw and drill press, so I can picture one like this in my shop.

Very functional. Well done. I might be a bit slow in picking up tips, but the pizza box for blade storage sounds like something I could use. Will tidy up a bit of my wall where blades are folded then hung.

Great idea, I’ve got just about everything on wheels except the planer/joiner and my router table and I’m putting that on wheels shortly (router table).
