Purple Heart Chair

My first woodworking project. Got some friends who do woodworking and they kept bugging me to give it a try. Was tired of standing around and watching them work so I thought I would make a chair. The design is based off of a 100yr plus JS Ford Johnson and Co. chair I picked for $25.00, the chair pictured on the right…I like the color of purple heart so it is just covered with wipe on poly. Not bad for someone with no prior woodworking experience. Lets just say it was a learning experience, lol.

This is your first woodworking project??!? Wow. I started a few months ago and I think I need to quit after hearing that. You are off to an amazing start. Great Job

Wow! Great job, and welcome to Lumberjocks! Please continue woodworking. If this is your first project, I can’t wait to see what you create once you’ve had some experience!

Your first project, huh? That’s it, I’m quitting woodworking and gonna open a Dairy Queen or something. :-)

Seriously, that’s amazing, and my favorite wood of all time, too. Love it!

Thanks for all the great comments…I guess I should not have said that this is my first project as I did make a picture frame back in grade school, lol. I’m also currently remodeling/rebuilding a mobile home I acquired for dirt cheap. You can see the laminate flooring and refurbished cabinets somewhat in the pics…I’ll add a new project and go into detail on it later…It is my first thought to finished product though, not just refurbishing something old. Don’t have previous job experience in any construction field, have been in the food industry 20+yrs. With the help of google and sites like these anything is possible…helps to know people with tools too…

That’s amazing work for a first project! Very pretty chair, like the design and the purple heart. Keep them coming!
