I built this bed for my daughter when she was 3 ( she is 11 now and still loves it) for her birthday. My wife picked it out of a magazine and wanted me to build it. I took some time to get the top rail curved on the headboard and footboard since I had not done anything like this before. It is made of poplar and painted with an oil base paint. I used knock down hardware for the side rails that were mortised into the side rails and headboard and footboard.

Resting peacefully every night for 8 years in a bed built by her Daddy. That’s special. Hopefully it gets handed down for generations….....replacing only the mattresses and maybe a fresh coat of paint every 15 years.
