I had gotten into family crests a while ago, but, after long hours of searching, I couldn’t find my family’s crest. I had read that you don’t HAVE to conform to whatever crest is out there for your family name. If so inclined (like me), you can design your own family crest representing your family’s unique history. After researching and designing the crest, I woodburned it onto a 20×30 piece of pine plywood and colored it in with colored inks and wood stains. I gave it to my folks as a gift, and it’s hanging over their fireplace mantle.

Thank you! The funnest part of the whole project was drawing up the crest itself. All the colors, symbols, even the flags and mantles, have some type of meaning when building your crest. And you can even make up your own family motto, unless your family already have one. I put ours together: “Razem my jestesmy silni” is polish for “United we are strong”.

Wow! Like every great detail of it. Love the colors. Every family member should be proud of it.

THanks, Fishinbo. I actually have two smaller versions that I made for my siblings. I’ll try to post them here when I can.

Have your say...
