Turkey Box call made of cherry and walnut.
It is approximately 12” long, 2” high and 11/2” wide.
I cut two saw kerfs in a block of cherry at a 6* angle and then cut out the center section on my bandsaw.
I used double stick tape and stuck a couple of strips of walnut to a scrap of 3/4” plywood and planed them down to fit into the saw kerf, and then glued them into place. Then I cut the handle out on the bandsaw exposing the walnut in the kerf creating a nice decorative effect.
The top was cut out on the bandsaw and shaped with my spindle sander.
A drywall screw and a spring attach it to the box.
Finished with 2 coats of wipe on poly.
The underside of the lid is chalked so that it will “speak” properly.
It “clucks, purrs and yelps” beautifully.
Here is a link to turkey sounds if you want to know what these sound like. These are not sounds from my call.

That is cool. I don’t need one though, when I get my turkey it is deaf and usually frozen :-) I do like this project though – would love to hear it.
