made of pine. i did that with hand tools after i saw an article about it from christian beckworth in fine woodworking.

had some problems with tearing when mortising because of the very soft wood.

some of ny joints are not tight either. oh well, now that i worked it out on a small
pine bench, i can redo another one in oak

I made one years ago and found the half dovetails to be trickier than I imagined (it’s in my projects). This summer I might make another and see how far my skills have progressed.

Rick, this is also exactly what I found out. One slight error in one end of the dovetailed brace and because of the lever arm it has, it lands in the wrong spot in the other socket. I found it more accurate to first cut the slots in the brace and then mark it off directly on the leg and top and cut the sockets.
