This is a desk we made and shipped to Boston back in April. The wood was sold to me as mango wood and I believe it comes from Southeast Asia. It was not kiln dried and the main plank cracked when we removed the moldy finish. For process photos and information on the inlays and steel work, visit our blog at

I agree. Without that split it would not have been as interesting. Now you get to “show off” some inlay abilities, and the table becomes a reminder that wood is a living thing. It adds so much more visual interest to an already beautiful table. By the way, the way that you made each butterfly smaller as the crack gets smaller is really cool. It almost looks like a zipper.
