my so-so boxes

This is a project that the thought was better than the finished product. The boxes are spalted poplar. The lid and traysare Red Cedar. The splines are Russian Olive. 12×8x4

I tripped over a dog and dropped one and blew out the knot in the back of lid. Mitered in hinges. Didn’t really like my miters and I am not thrilled with the brass hinges. I used a black chain. I am not a big fan of chains, but I do like the black ones. Finish is Danish Oil and multiple coats of wipe on poly.

OK, I sound whiny tonight

Thanks for looking

Nice work, like the contrast of color in the two woods. Don’t throw them into the fire just yet ya know?

I really like the cedar! I haven’t use a lot of cedar, but what I have has had a mix of red to white color. You have a nice piece there. I bet those boxes smell good too!

I had a whole bunch of pencil drawings that my dog chewed to unrecognizable bits of cud. I still love her more than any drawing I ever done drew! She’s my sweet little Boo! The boxes look fine. Pick yerself up, shake off the dust and get started on the next project. Oh and stop whining will ya?!

Monte…you said they are so-so boxes…yes, they are so-so nice boxes…! We all do some work that we feel that may not be our best work…I sure feel that way about some stuff I do…but as many have said before is that wew are always our worst critic.

Nice Job! Just think of the experience you received. To quote Randy Pausch (sp ?) experience is what you get when you don’t get what you want. :)

Monte, these are real progress from some of the first boxes I saw you post. I like the splines, and the proportions. Nice work. You might consider this method of mortising and hinges.
