Kind of a cool project. These were made for service awards for firefighter’s out West. Solid Maple and Walnut, kings about 6” tall, pawns about 3” tall. Chessboard about 24” square, also Maple and Walnut.

Kings: Dudes carrying hose, wearing tank on their back
Queen: Axe wielding female fire fighter
Bishop: Maltese Cross with department name
Knights: Rescue dogs
Rooks: 3-plug fire hydrants
Pawns: Flames

That’s very clever, Jim. I love the fireplugs as rooks. That’s perfect.

Jim ~ You always bring out these remarkable and original chess sets. I can’t imagine how much work goes into these. One single piece would take me a couple of days. Really nice work!

-- I just got done cutting three boards and all four of them were too short. (true story)

Thanks everybody!

I’ve resisted so far, but I’m sure someday I’ll have one of the dogs hiking his leg towards one of the plugs.
It was an honor to make them for these special people.
