This box is the ‘brother’ to “Bullet”. The walnut is the other half of the bookmatch I sawed from the crotch walnut “Naked Joinery” sent me. The frame is some mulberry I sawed last summer from firewood. Check out the wild grain in the quarter sawn mulberry! I’ve got to saw some more of this! Dimensions:12 1/2×8 1/2×5”. Finished with rubbed on shellac. I changed the pegs for the half laps on the lid from round to square just to exercise my mortiser. Wooden Patron/Grizz hinges. Hinge pins are hidden with 1/8” mulberry dowel. I really liked the mulberry and will try to use more of it in the future. It retains it’s yellow color much better than Bois de Arc. Oh yeah, the tray is made from walnut sapwood and Luan ply with walnut splines (7/64”).

Well goes to show I picked the right person to mentor from. Love the mulberry, and they were wrong. You can fit a square peg in a round hole. Next thing you know the center panel will be a drawer lol. I’ve got 30 bf collecting dust and you’ve got two beautiful boxes, jealus!!

Well done Andy! The grain in the quarter sawn mulberry is really nice looking but i must admit the Crotch Walnut is my favorite.
This box is beautiful! Just like all the boxes you make!

Andy, that work is excellent!!! I just wish I will live long enough to do work that will look 1/2 as good as the box that you created. Looking forward to more breath taking work.

Thanks for all the kind words but really guys, you can be honest. I personally didn’t like the square pegs at all! (look closely at their corners) :(

Absolutely awesome as usual Andy…the mulberry has such a nice rich yellow color and the quarter sawn pieces are a beauty.
