Scott (lysdexic) and I took a class at the Woodright School on Saturday and made Roy Underhill’s “mystery mallet.” The class was a lot of fun and Roy is great teacher and one of the most animated people you’ll ever meet. With respect to joinery, this was probably the most difficult piece I’ve attempted, but it came out nicely, I think.

Details: the head is walnut and the handle is hickory. I finished it with boiled linseed oil and paste wax.

The last photo is a family portrait of mallets (the one on the right I got from lysdexic from the Mallet Swap last year).

That came out great Brandon. Any attempts to hit Scott with it?

Thanks! Don, I didn’t hit Scott with the mallet—-I’m too scared it might break. :-)

Well done Brandon, i love the looks of that mallet.

Thats one way to fend off Scott from slugging your beers.

Then don’t hit him in the head.

It was great—-of course it would have been nicer if you had decided to go, too. The good news is that Roy is coming to Highland for a class sometime soon.

Looks cool Brandon. I can’t even come up with any snarky comments for Scott at the moment…I am slipping.
