I was making a bunch of cutting boards this past weekend and decided I wanted to break the monotony with something a little different. This idea came to me a while ago to make a board shaped like a sheet of paper with a line drawn on it.
The maple board is 9”x14” and “three-hole punched” with maple tapered plugs inserted on both sides. The “ruler line” is a piece of blue dyed veneer.
I started by bandsawing the pencil line on the bandsaw and filled it with two strips of black dyed veneer, glued in place with CA. I glued up the pencil by end gluing a piece of yellowheart, cherry and ebony, then cutting the point. The pencil inlay was used to mark out the board and I cut away the waste and fitted the pencil in.
Finish sanded and a coat of cutting bard wax and its done.
Back to the boring boards…

Now that’s thinking so way outside of the box, that it’s brilliant!

That’s really great. I was thinking the other day of making a cutting board and then cutting in a chip and crack and filling it with a different colored wood….you beat me to it…Great Job

Always good to break up the monotony. Cute project.

Unique and interesting cutting board! Like it and the pencil inlay added a great accent.
