I picked up some walnut shorts at my local supplier in hopes of making something small. I wanted to use my lathe for a project for the 1st time. I turned the legs round but kept the upper 4” square. I have NEVER turned anything useful before. I also wanted the top to be clean and crisp. I have inexspensive tools so it is difficult to create clean straight cuts. All my previous projects I have covered up mistakes with round over bits and trim. I did neither on this one. I am quite happy with the end result. It is roighly 23” wide, 16” deep, and 24” tall. The wood was rough so this is also the 1st project I had to mill from rough down to S4S. I wiped the entire thing down with an oil finish, and I will use a satin poly in the coming days since it is for my mother and she likes to set water overnight. Gotta protect it… Thanks for looking.
