Mallet (not of my dreams...)

This is a project from FineWoodworking Tools & Shops Winter 2012 issue No. 230. I made it using 8/4 cherry; I didn’t have any 12/4 so I had to cheat and glue up two 8/4 pieces for the mallet head. It was finished with three coats of General Finishes Arm-r-Seal Oil and Urethane Topcoat, semi-gloss (because that is what I was finishing another project with at the time). Thanks for looking.

It’s a nice and clean mallet! Who could ask for anything more?

TerryDowning: Thanks, I checked out your posting and it looks as though you did it the right way (that is, no glue up). I didn’t have any 12/4 wood, so I had to glue up two pieces of 8/4. I am in the process of making a few more; when my daughter saw the completed mallet, she wanted one for herself.

Everyone: Thanks for the comments, I actually posted this project and title “tongue-in-cheek”. Not to offend anyone (although I am sure it will), but I find these “whatever of your dreams” threads kind of funny. When I saw the one titled “Mallets of Your Dreams”, I had to laugh. I had this thought of some guy (or gal) sitting around dreaming about a mallet that they wish they could have.

Have your say...
