This carving is in Butternut, approximately 3 feet tall and about 12” wide. I was asked to carve it for someone who was no longer able to continue to carve. It was a facinating project, the first time I had done anything like it. I found the butternut wood to be a little tough to go cross grain but other than that it finished up well. The important part is the working through the project and enjoyment that it brought the individual.

Good work, I can’t imagine carving for a carver that could no longer carve. It had to be very emotional and it is expressed in your carving. You can feel his pain.

-- How it happened that Mastro Cherry, carpenter, found a piece of wood that wept and laughed like a child.

Thank you for saying that. I didn’t know how. I don’t think I have ever been so tied up in knots over a carving. The gentle man I carved for is so very good. When I delivered it, I wanted to stick it in the door and leave before he said anything. He was so very appreciative and left me feeling that passion counts.

beautiful work. The contorted body reinforces the feelings of pain and suffering.

Very nice carving! You did a great job of interpreting the meaning.
