Gun Closet Organizer

I was asking to make something to turn a closet into gun storage and cleaning space. The house is very old; the walls are not straight or square and made of plaster. I could not anchor anything to the walls and the customer might want to do reloading from the bench. He did not want it fancy or expensive and did not need shelves or drawers. He did want to hold 21 guns.
So this is what I came up with. It is a reinforced box of ¾ inch AC with a vertical frame to support a board shaped to receive and hold gun barrels. The box has shelves but wasn’t fancy.
The worktop is doubled to compensate for the stresses a reloading machine produces. I scribed and cut the worktop edges to conform closely to the wall surface. It is also covered by a layer of 1/8th inch hard board as a replaceable blotter, and that is topped with a wedge to stop the gun butts from sliding. The upper section holds 12 guns not 21. If needed, more gun storage can be added. If it has to be anchored it can be screwed to the floor. Most important of all, his wife liked it so he got to keep it.

Ingenious! But I don’t see any security in it.

Nice work. It looks like it should do the job.

Hey! That gun on the right wasn’t supposed to be in the picture….Uh, it’s a toy.
As for security, anyone who can find this place and get to the guns can probably have them. He didn’t seem to want security. I could have done that very well. I did electronic security among other things in my past life.

GOD BLESS THEN SECOND AMMENDMENT!
Thanks for the commits

Nice storage area. It looks like there is a Browning Auto on the left and I like that little pump 22 -second from the right. Oh and I see he has an oil filter silencer and a nice double barrel. A man after my own heart!!
I’d put a slick lock mechanism on the door and no handle to keep it from being pulled open! There is a lot of money in those guns and he’ll need to keep them secure.

As long as the man with the money is happy Terry then thats all that matters. Always good when you can come up with a cost effective solution, well, done.
Seems a hell of a lot of guns for a man to have lying about the house !!, maybe he is a collector

Terry I understand every American’s right under the 2nd,
In NZ our everyday Cops on the beat dont even carry any guns, they have just been issued with tazers, of course there are the Special units which seem to arrive very quickly when needed, it’s a big debate down here but the poly’s dont want to touch it ??
The other crazy thing we have here is you have to be registered to own a gun, but the guns are not licensed, only the owner who could have 1/2 dozen unknown pieces.
Different folk different strokes I guess
Cheers Mate

Great design but not secure enough.

Have your say...
