I was asking to make something to turn a closet into gun storage and cleaning space. The house is very old; the walls are not straight or square and made of plaster. I could not anchor anything to the walls and the customer might want to do reloading from the bench. He did not want it fancy or expensive and did not need shelves or drawers. He did want to hold 21 guns.
So this is what I came up with. It is a reinforced box of ¾ inch AC with a vertical frame to support a board shaped to receive and hold gun barrels. The box has shelves but wasn’t fancy.
The worktop is doubled to compensate for the stresses a reloading machine produces. I scribed and cut the worktop edges to conform closely to the wall surface. It is also covered by a layer of 1/8th inch hard board as a replaceable blotter, and that is topped with a wedge to stop the gun butts from sliding. The upper section holds 12 guns not 21. If needed, more gun storage can be added. If it has to be anchored it can be screwed to the floor. Most important of all, his wife liked it so he got to keep it.
