Yard projects

Project by Cathy Krumrei posted 533 days ago 713 views 2 times favorited 10 comments Add to Favorites Watch

I posted 3 projects I have been working on the last few weeks. The first one is my ladder flower planters that I wanted to have something on the backyard shop wall. This was PERFECT! I got it from Woodsmith magazine, they had it as a 5 tier display tower for inside a home. I knew right away it would be pefect for the wall! So with a little redesigning to accomadate flowers I made three and now have them set up outside and it really did alot for that dead area! I have had lots of compliments and now have been asked to make others to sell. I made mine out of treated wood and they can be moved for the winter so they won’t be damaged from the snow from the roof. I also added my own hangers for feeders and a wind chime. The next picture is of a bench (which is actually set up on the right side of the ladder planters, I made from a Workbench magazine article that was really fun to make. I used pallet boards for this one. All the holes etc really made this a fun project. And I plan to make some more for the yard! Also the little birdhouse was made also from pallet boards. I added the pallet board for the post and all the decorations I got at a Thift store just for this purpose. I hung the tea pots with wire to look like they are just hanging there. Then next picture is a feeder I made for my mom. I even put trim work underneath so it would be safe in the weather and added the shingles to the roof. Also I added a little perch in front. I got the idea from a friend who’s grandson made it in school. So this is what I decided to make my moms from. I then painted it and now she’s going to get a new feeder this weekend.
Well, thanks for looking I thought it would be best to get all 3 project together.

Very nicely done. I too like the ladder planters. The Mrs is a gardener and I’m sure that she would like a couple of these.

When I was a kid there was a guy just outside our town that used these to grow starter plants for his strawberries, we used to pick for him at 5 cents a quart. Those are beautiful. What a happy reminder of my childhood. Thanks mike

Like the ladder planters, a great space saver but so easy to water, ideal for our dry climates in Australia.
Wish you people could send some rain down under.

Thank you for the plans it is the perfect winter project for our children! We are taking apart an old swim stand and love to recycle, this will make use of all the treated wood that we have! The children will be able to place these in the garage and start their gardens early without the worry of having the resident ground hog eat all of the seedlings!

I’d love to see the picture when you complete them. If you have some extra wood left over…I did this project of a fence for the gkids to paint. It’s the best and most cherished gkid project in my yard. You can see it here-http://lumberjocks.com/projects/2121 I take it down for the winter I have two metal posts to hold it during the summer. Then place it in my greenhouse, I want this to last for a long long time. Have fun!
