Here are the results of the past several weeks time in the shop. I wanted to make and donate a total of four boards to some charity fundraiser auctions (2 auctions, 2 boards each), and I wanted to experiment with some of the cool designs I’ve seen other LJs make. So naturally a four board plan turned out to be about 15 pieces when it was all said and done. One piece, the round weave lazy susan went to my lovely wife.

I just couldn’t decide on shape, design, materials, etc, etc, so I made a whole bunch to see which ones looked nice.

I really like the second picture, it’s a bread/serving board. It’s walnut, maple, and sapele. I like the curvy stripe and love the figure maple and the shimmering sapele.

The crazy blocks one is a neat optical illusion. doesn’t grab me, but friends and family that have seen it really like it.

My second fave is the small, simple purpleheart board with the varying sized maple dowels in a sine wave pattern. It’s simple but for some reason, I love it.

I had a lot of fun making these. I hope some people bid on them and raise some money for two good causes (send 8th grade kids an a Washington DC trip, and allow 14-18 year old girls play in a summer softball league).

Thanks to the many LJ’s that unbeknownst to them, I “borrowed” their creative ideas.

Wonderful. You now only have a big heart, you have a pretty large dining table as well.. I keep looking but I’m still not sure how you do those fancy looking boards…I know there are glue ups, but that’s as far as my eyes see.

Nice. Did you design these yourself or find plans somewhere? I’d like to try and make a couple of those.
