Awhile back I posted on my stand I made for the sander to get off the counter. So I decided to show a how much space I ended up with along with a few things I did to help me (suppose to be “us”) easier to work in.
I moved the chop saw to where the sander use to be. WOW! Lots of room huh? The next picture had been done a long time ago. Now instead of having the table against a wall we put it up against the table saw. Much better to deal with larger pieces of wood and you don’t have to have 2 people to hold it or the stand. Best thing we had done! And when the saw isn’t being used we put the blade down and we know have a work area for any project. And plenty of room if we happen to work on something at the same time. Notice I have a turn table in the middle…so much easier to put what tools I will use and have them handy and get out of the way till I need them. Also..I just HAD to get them darn golf clubs taken care of. No, they didn’t go out the door…but I made this so “he” will get the hint to put them there instead of all over the place. LOL Plus since he made a holder for the clamps..which I have to get a ladder to get too. I don’t know why he put them so high up! So I decided I was going to fix that idea. I took the ones I would use and clamped them to the countertop. Out of the way but handy now to get at. And if you notice how clean my work shop is..yeah I like to start with a clean shop everytime. Fanatic..I guess. But it makes working on something so much nicer.
Any commments or if you see where we could improve please let me know. We plan on putting another cabinet section on the right side of the picture and under the countertop. Someday. Never ending isn’t it? I have some other projects to post, but I’ll wait a few days so others can post their projects. Having way too much fun lately!
Krum

Looks like a great place to carve or create saw dust. I like it, very neat! The turntable is a great idea. What are the shop dimensions?

That’s nice Cathy. I’m in the middle of getting mine set up and this gives me some hope that some day I will actually be able to have room for a project. I’ve tried to start a few, but get tired of moving things just to have 5 feet of clean space.

I love the utensil turntable. I have one I’m not using … guess I’ll take it out to the shop. :)

Looks great.

I’ve been making an effort to at least pick up my tools every time I’m finished in the shop for the day. The sawdust I only clean up when the project is finished.

Thanks for the comments..the size of the building is 30’x40’ and we split it in half, one side is my carving side, the other is now a wood shop area. I just feel it’s easier to make something without having to keep picking up things I am not using. Also plan on making some pencil holders and going to buy a case of them! I’ll post that project later! The turn table really is a cheap way to keep what your using at the time, so go grab that one! LOL Thanks again!

Your shop is cleaner than my kitchen! Seriously, I get shop envy because half of Texas blows through my shop every day.

Since you are requesting suggestions, the only suggestion I have is to think about some sort of possibly removable tables the same height as the mitre saw table. Perhaps the could sit on the countertop on either side of the saw, in line with the saw fence. Makes cutting long stuff sooo much easier, but that all depends on your projects and methods of operation.

Thanks for posting!!

You know that is a very good idea Texasgaloot! Having the miter saw near the larger table would really be the best place to use it. I can make it the exact height so that what needs cutting will lay right on the table and you won’t have to use the holder I have. Sometimes that can be a pain to deal wtih too. And I’ll make it with locking wheels and even have a place to put a clamp to hold it in place. Thanks! Now I have another project!
I admit my shop isn’t as clean during any project time! But yes it does get cleaned up when I finish my project. I can’t help it. Just the way I work. I won’t show you my lathe side! That one does get a messy with the chips flying..and yes I do clean up after I am done for the day. Not by project! Thanks all for the nice comments and sharing some more ideas to help make our shop easier to work in.

Far to clean Cathy, I wouldn’t know where to find anything if mine was like that.
