A couple years ago I rescued a rocking chair out of the garbage at the time it had one broken part which I fixed and put the chair into daily service knowing full well that down the line I’d have to do a complete reglue. Well that day came last month and while I had the chair apart the right main back post was talking to me saying “carve me”. I haven’t done a lot of figure carving and I kept thinking man if I screw up this chair is going to be scrap or I’ll have to make another spindle. I continued to resist putting off assembling the chair and that part kept whispering to me “Carve Me” And I continued to resist and it yelled at me ‘CARVE ME!!!!!” So I did hoping I wouldn’t goof up and ruin the spindle and as you can see from the pictures that is the results. I assembled the chair and again it’s back in service with a little wood spirit watching TV with me. I call him “Old Io” since I really didn’t carve in his eyes he reminded me of the god “Blind Io” from the “Disk World” series. As you might notice I didn’t spend any time refinishing the rocking chair it just needs to functiional for me not pretty.

Very cool! I’m glad to hear that someone else hears voices too. The voices I hear seem to come from little branches saying “Please whittle me into a little bird”. Thanks for listening!

Oh other pieces of wood talk too like There’s a spoon in here find it. And those projects always work out. It’s when you pick up a piece of wood and say this is going to be a …........ and the more you try the worse it gets. YES THE WOOD TALKS TO US! Listen you will hear it too.
