I made a fireplace surround from MDF for my daughter er her specs a few years ago, worked out well, but am still not sold…. i like real wood. What is the attraction? Does it really stay stable/flat? I see it used in workbenches and jigs…. what’s the REAL skinny? I am just a bit lost, trying to educate myself.

cheap material , therefore cheaper cost to client i guess, i use it alot but prefer birch ply or a veneered mdf sheet.
Real skinny ? ???

I agree scottishbob
I use mdf for paint grade stuff when price is an issue, it paints so nicely.
drwback for me is the weight. never bothered me when I was younger but something about turning 60 affected my ability(or desire) to throw around 4×8x3/4” panels.
I also buy veneer faced mdf.
nice job
