This is my recently completed “Man Room” fireplace mantle. The log was a red cedar sawn on our Mom and Dad’s place and kiln dried. Inital checks were filled with epoxy. I hand scraped the bark off and sawed the stobs flush with the exterior of the log. The log was sanded to 220g then received 3 coats of hand brushed poly. The top received 5 coats of hand brushed poly which was wet sanded to 1000g and then buffed to a high shine with steel wool up to OOOO. The corbells are made of 3 layers of 1” cedar and shaped with spindel sander.
I think it adds alot to the room.
Thanks
Rob

Very cool fireplace mantel! Like how you showed the natural beauty of cedar and the finish sets it off. Great job!

Have your say...
