A friend of mine called me this summer, and ask if I would be interested in some free lumber. FREE!! LUMBER, Do monkeys like bananas?? I went to his house, and there waiting for me was three cherry logs all measuring about 16” in diameter, and 12’ long, along with an Ash log that measured 2’ in diameter X8’ long. Just to be polite, I ask what he wanted for all of this. He said that his wife would like a bowl to put fruit in, so this is what I made him. The bowl is 11 ” in diameter X 3 and 3/4” deep. There is 89 pieces of Ash Walnut, Curly Maple, And Jatoba in it, This is about all that my little Rikon !2-16 can handle. I think that I got the better of the trade

Impressive bowl, indeed. You may have gotten more lumber out of the deal, but your friend’s wife got a great bowl and she’ll never forget where it came from. Kudos.

Don, That is a beautiful bowl, I bet your mates wife will love it. Well done.
I still reckon you stole that timber from him. But that is what friends are for hey. Do you think one of those logs would fit in a flat rate box???

Thanks for the nice comments guy’s. Should get a chance to start using some of this lumber later this summer, as most of it was sawed to 4/4 by my son in law and has been drying in his barn.

I like the unconventional shape and the flared rim of this beautiful bowl. The woods are nice too. Great work!

Beautiful fruit or even ice cream bowl! You definitely made out on that trade. It is so nice when people ask you if you want wood before it’s turned into firewood. We recently picked up logs of locust from Hubby’s friend and he asked for a bowl for his wife. Am still studying working with green wood and how to store and dry it. Right now I have four projects that need done for trade.

I just noticed that your bowl didn’t make the Daily Top 3. Well it did in my book!
