A solid sycamore jewellery box ,the top being veneered with 20 pieces of shard shaped San Domingo rosewood, edged with a black inlay. As a feature I have inserted slithers of veneer at a dovetail angle to the corners of the box. It has one tray with a handle that allows you to remove easily to reveal the bottom layer . The tray and bottom are lined with a light brown suede like material.

I love the veneering on that. The Sycamore really sets it off too. Nice work!

Another nice veneering job. Great idea for top. I do the miter keys for added strength to the miter glue joint. Do you think the slivers will add much strength?

Nice looking box. What brand of hinges did you use?

Nice box, well made. I want to know more about the hinges too…smart hinge from Ian Hawthorne?

Great execution & detail ! You must be very patient with that veneer work.

Thanks for sharing.

Thankyou for your lovely comments, Robert ,I don’t think they add too much strength to the corners ,but I also done it for a bit of a feature so it doesn’t look too plain. Rustynails and Matthew, yes they are “smarthinge” and I bought them from Andrew Crawford, a top box maker , who has now commisioned them to be made in England, lovely quality but expensive.
