My wife is a book collector and quite a Tolkien aficionado with several first editions etc. They needed a place to be displayed out of the dust. I started this back in early December, but didn’t manage to finish it before Yuletide. But at least it’s still winter!
The second part matches this and is mounted on top of it, but it’s not finished yet.
It’s made of “white wood” plywood that they sell at lowes. I have no idea what that means – a rather bland grain to it. The edges are 1/4” strips of SYP, as are the door frames. Hinges and pulls are from Rockler and glass from Intown Ace Hardware up the way. (love that place!)
The back is some left over luan plywood from the ceiling of my shed a couple years ago.
I inherited all of my father’s wooden hand planes, and I used them to make the bead work around the glass. Now that I have done that I wouldn’t do it any other way – it worked out really well, and wasn’t nearly as noisy as a router setup.
