I guess that by looking at my project gallery, it is obvious that I enjoy making cases for mechanical clocks.

This was a fun piece to make, and is an interesting alternative for homes that do not have the right space available for a big grandfather clock.

I looked pretty extensively for construction plans, that I liked, for an elegant yet traditional wall clock, which would house a pendulum/weight driven mechanical clock movement. I decided to build this case from plans I purchased from Klockit.
http://www.klockit.com/products/product.aspx?sku=CCCCB&tab=

I opted to make my own style changes to several of the case mouldings and trim pieces, to fit my own tastes.

The case is made of ¾” and ½” solid red oak. I chose to use a solid back panel on the case rather than a piece of plywood, and I think the solid back really adds to the sound and resonance quality of the movement.

To finish the case I layered 3 different colors of oil base stain under 5 coats of gloss General Finishes Arm-R-Seal. The color is very deep and really adds to the beauty of the brass movement.

The clock movement is a cable driven regulator pendulum movement that plays a full 16 note Westminster melody on the hour, progressive melodies on the quarter-hours, and counts out the hours. It is not as loud as the grandfather clock in the house, but it is audible from most areas of the house and the tone quality is excellent.

The combination of the prominent top crown, the rounded corners on the glass openings and the beveled glass front give an added feel of elegance to the piece.

It is one of the first pieces that you see when you enter the front door of my home, and is a great addition and conversation piece.

Thanks for letting me share
