Nothing to “write home about”, but was fun to have a box actually turn out. Haha, try as I may, I believe I scrap more than I complete. This is mahogany and maple with a thin piece aromatic cedar in the bottom. Given to a friend for his 1 year old son for Christmas.

Good looking box, there are days when I should rename my hobby, to sawdust maker. Keep on cutting…

Very nice. I like how you routed the finger holds on the ends.

The doubled splines are a very nice detail. No matter how careful I try to be when I cut the splines back, I almost always have one break off into the corner of the box.

Thanks for sharing.

Bill, mine often turn out the same. They did on this box, as well. I saw something on he Wood Whisperer that I tried here. Up close, you can still tell, but at a distance, this tip “helped”. Sand some saw dust off of a piece of scrap of the same wood you used for the spline. Put the saw dust in the crevice and add a little drop of super glue. Again, it isn’t 100% effective, but does help some.

Great looking box! Like the neat design and the well made splines.

Have your say...
