This was a christmas gift for my brother and his wife. It’s made from pine, and took quite a bit of glueups. The table top is made of 36 pieces of 23×55x1200mm. Originally I was thinking of mounting the legs underneath, but I decided to fit them in “notches” I cut out with a handsaw in each corner of the table top, level with the table top. This takes some serious precision if you want to get a good result, and considering I had never tried this before, I am really pleased about how it turned out. Finish is one coat oil based black paint, wiped off right after application to get a semi-transluscent look. After it had dried, it was slightly sanded with 400 grit sand paper to get that smooth surface.
It was a real challenge pulling this project off in my tiny shop. The shelf underneath the table was impossible to mount inside the shop, so I had to clear my livingroom and bring the table in the house to get enough elbow room to do the last fitting and mounting.
Leave a comment if you like this! (By the way, this is my second attempt at building a table, first one was a new kitchen table for ourselves that I made out of blue pine).
