Winged ring boxes

Some fun projects with the end object of getting three wings up and one down as in picture 1 and 2.
I learnt another lesson while doing these, “always check the distance between the wings and tool rest before turning the lathe on”, I checked one of these with the lathe doing 500rpm and caught the left hand little finger between a wing and the tool rest, ended up with compound fracture and micro surgery and now I can’t play the piano anymore. Joke.
Also good idea to make a mark on the tool rest where the wings will be turning.

G’day Pete, challenge accepted and no excuses. For the dimples I used the dremel and a small round carbide burr and then lime wax and copper paint. Are Australian manta rays the same as New Zealand ones?

A really unique and interesting turning Bob. Sorry about your accident and injury. It could have been a lot worse though. You might have damaged the lathe.
