Here’s the bookcase that has been five years in the making. This is my third “real” woodworking project. I’ll have to post the other two when I get the chance.

I have just finished the glue up and have taken the pipe clamps off. It was one of the bookcases in the bookcase challenge. It is made out of purple heart and maple. There were a lot of mistakes but I like the overall design. If I had to do it all over again I would make the purple heart at the front edge of the shelves wider to be even with the ripple of purple heart on the sides. I also need to buy more clamps. You can never have enough!

The shelves are routed in from the back. There are 4 coats of Arm-R-Seal high gloss on the fronts/tops and 3 on the backs/bottoms.

That’s very cool! I really like to way you stepped the top and bottom.

Pretty piece.

I, too, like the stepped shelves. This is an innovative design and certainly adds to the visual interest of the piece as well. The finish looks pretty good too.

Thanks for the post.

Very nice, I like this design. I think it reveals an inner city skyline look. Something that would be in set of furniture, ie, table, chairs, etc.
