This is my first box. Design idea from Woodsmith Shop TV show.

The box is made of cherry, the bottom 1/4” cherry ply with wenge splines.

The top is made of a cherry frame, and the center panel is 1/4” ply veneered with 1/8” thick Panga wood. I’d never heard of that till I saw it at the lumber yard. Looks a bit like wenge. The inlay banding around the Panga is home-made, maple and wenge.

Box is 8”x 12” x 3.5” tall. It was constructed as a normal box then beveled the sides on the tablesaw. Neat project and I learned a lot, particularly on mitering.

Andrew, that is a beautiful box, well done.
I love the color combination of the different woods and lining.

Thank you for showing.

Your first box! Well it looks great and the workmanship is excellent! I really like the way you flared the box. The Cherry wood with the wenge splines gives it nice contrast. Very sharp looking!

Awesome looking box. You should be very satisfied for your first box…

I must say that a lot of the ‘first time’ box builders here are way better than my first attempt. Great job.

Great Job! Your first box involved a lot of set up and planning to accomplish what you did.

I’ll be watching for your next box.

Your boards are very intricate, I can see why your first box was so successfull
