I had some problems making this, getting it flat was tricky. I tried to use the planer but the board exploded and I had to make it a bit smaller :) I then setup a drum sander on my lather, which worked ok except the paper peeled off a bit. I was probably in a bit too much of a hurry there, I ended up using a hand belt sander and then a random orbital sander to finish it off. I finished the board itself with mineral oil mixed with some bees wax.
Next time I will get the drum sander working better, or make my own small drum sander.
Wombles!
David.

David,
This is a very interesting board. This is one of the more unique ones that have been posted here. What woods did you use in its construction?
Thanks for the post.

The middle is cherry, 2×2’s and scrap 1xrandom widths. The contrasting colours are sap vs heart wood and the outside is maple.

Nice looking board! Next time you do one instead of trying to flatten it with a planer or belt sander, try using a router sled, simple to build and easy to use and you will love the results.
