Butterfly box

First you find a piece of “hairy oak” that cut in cross-section looks like butterfly wings.

Draw some leaves for it to be among, with frame .. Scroll-saw and carve them.

Carve a little body of ebony scrap. Tip up the wings with little wedges underneath.
Glue all to lid-panel. So much easier than carving grounding ! and in this case
I like the mixed colors.

Rest of the box is pretty basic, but because it is like a crate (the panels are
behind the frame / edges), it was possible to make a good lid stop (pic 3).
I am proud of that little detail, and would like to use it again, except I dont make
many boxes like crates.

As you may see, it sits on the hallway phone table, to hold address books, pencil & paper,
and the instruction book for the answering-machine.
So, it’s medium-to-big: outside about 26×23 x 12 cm.
