olive burl with stainless steel inlay at hearth, electric burl, stainless and mirrored doors open and close to reveal big screen. total length 22 feet and main mantel is all one piece.

Impressive, was it hard finding olive burl?

i will take some pics of it closed jonathan.the hardware was all custom fabricated, ball bearing rollers and a low voltage dc motor on the far right side with a cogged drive belt so the right door is connected to the front of the belt and the left to the rear of the belt so when the belt turns the doors move opposite directions and uses limit switches to stop it. the frames for the doors are stainless steel then clad in burl with a mdf substrate, the mirror is back mounted. bravogolftango the burl was easy to get and is all book matched but does change a bit as you go thru the flitches. i had to weld some of the lower frame work on site to connect it all together. a pattern was screwed to the wall out of 3/4 ply so the stone masons had a ledger after it set then the pattern was removed and used to build the mantel so the mantel is inlaid into the stone and glued to poplar blocks that bolted to the steel.
