I have been making Coffee Mills for the last few years, but my supplier of the mill gave up so I had to come up with a new mouse trap. I found a crusher/grinder from Europe that produced a very nice fine grind but it was made for salt and it had a shaft. I had to come up with a way of using it in the coffee mill.

As you can see, I had to make a bean hopper as well so I made the lid of the hopper into a drive for the crusher, but my first attempt using a knob didn’t make for easy grinding, not enough leverage. So my prototype #2 did the trick.

It’s all made of Black Ash from Manitoba and finished with Woodturners Jelly….

Nice turning Syd. I wouldn’t mind one if I could get the wife to do all the grinding!

This was originally written up by David Reed-Smith way back in 2004. He used a grinder from PSI but did say it was more for show than real coffee grinding and after Craft Supply gave up on the one they sold I had to do something.
So I took a look at David’s construction and modified it to allow for the use of the Crusher/grinder from Europe.

If you need instructions, let me know.
Syd.

You can download the new instructions by clicking on the doc.

Hope you enjoy coffee made from fresh ground beans…
