I built this 3 panel blanket chest for my wife for our 25th anniversary this June. From design to completion – Sketchup http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=2e366ec72eaff79cf506bb81dc47184b
The panels are 3/4 “ thick. I’ve seen problems with thin panels before, so I centered a 1/4” edge and gave it a 3/8” reveal all the way around – looks pretty cool! – I inlayed her initials in Black Walnut. The chest is quartersawn White Oak, fumed for ~30 hours, (shown here with 2 coats of sealer, still have 3 coats of satin poly & wax to go on). The whole thing is mortise & tenon with walnut pins. Aromatic Cedar lines the bottom panel. All in all, turned out great! (she’s just happy I built something for her for once!)

Very handsome and sturdy-looking. I’m sure your missus loves it. Who wouldn’t?

Very, very beautiful! I am sure that the LOYL is more than pleased and is wondering where to put in her order for the rest of the collection.

Very nice, she has to love it. I have a cedar lined chest that looks like a dresser. It has legs and a small drawer at the bottom and fake doors up the front. My mom redid it from an old one, it even has some holes in it, worm holes or some bug got at it at one time. It is beautiful except some damage it has gotten along the way, since I’ve had it, but because it looks like a dresser it is a bit much in my bedroom. All that to say that I would love to rather have one like this that I could put on the end of my bed perhaps.
Does your box have a hinged lid or does it lift off?

Hi Schroeder;
You’ve done a great job here. I’ll bet your wife loves it.
Congratulations on making it for twenty five years.

This is a nice chest. If your wife loves it then that is all that is important.
Well done.
