My son needed a pencil box for school so I used his box as the guinea pig for my first ever hand-cut dovetails. They turned out “okay” and I learned a lot. I definitely know what to do differently/better next time. -Oh, it was also the first time I had used hide glue. Jury’s still out, but I do think I kinda like it.
I made a fitted lid so that little fingers wouldn’t get pinched by a hinged lid that falls shut.
Wood is local-grown (Central IL) walnut, finish is oil/varnish blend. Three coats, hand-rubbed between each.

nicely done. There’s a lot more to dovetails then one would think. Especially hand cut.

Nice job. I hope my first handcut dovetails are half as good.
