Drove by the bowling alley over the summer to find out that the center was closing. 12’x4’ sections of the lanes were being stacked outside. I asked one of the workers if I could buy one, and he told me to take as much as I wanted, free of charge. Needless to say, I jumped at the opportunity. I picked a stack the same level as my Explorer, and slid an entire 12’ section into the back of the truck. Years before, I had a similar opportunity, but passed, and regretted it ever since. I wasn’t going to pass it up this time. Now I have a sturdy workbench top and shelf that will last forever! The boards are only nailed together, so I could easily get the size I needed. A little light sanding, a few coats of polly, and some maple trim was all it took. Plus, I can use the scrap to turn some good looking pens!

My father in law has a bowling alley workbench top. He took the very end of the lane where the pins used to stack so right in the center of his workbench are the 10 dots where the pins used to line up on. His has been in use since the early 80’s and he grabbed an additional one for a future bench, but never needed it. This should last you a good while. Nice find.
