A Asian inspired, floating top, bocote slab hallway table. Found an interesting slab at a wood store and had to have it! Modeled a hallway table after several variations that I liked and ended up wtih this.
The legs are 8/4 walnut, tapered from the bottom to the top. the lower rail is a peice of “rustic” hard maple. The main rails are all mortise and tenon construction. First time mortising walnut…way easier than oak! The finish is 3 coast of brush on lacquer.
It is also my first piece of furniture that sent me to the emergency room! Making my final curved rail piece on the bandsaw, my mind was elsewhere, the blade cut through the wood, and into the tip of my thumb. Three stiches later, I was out.

I really like this table and the design
I can see what you mean the top would make me pull the trigger as well
Having the cross member up on end is a nice touch because it would be stronger and show off the grain
Way to put your heart and soul into this…ooops i mean thumb and soul :)

Very nice design and build Jeremy. I thought I was the only person who could injure himself with a bandsaw! I’m glad for you that it wasn’t serious. Bandsaws can easily lull you into a sense of safety just before they bite you.

Very cool design. I like it that you used a slab for the top rather than a traditional top.
