This started out to be about 6” tall. I was going to make a slender stem and as I got close to about 3/8” I hit the pith which was very rotten. You can see it in the second and third picture. The top just popped off. It surprised me and I sat there looking kinda stupid(easy for me) trying to figure out what to do. The idea came to me to cut off the small parts of the stem on both ends. I then drilled a hole in the bottom making a mortise. I turned a tenon on the top and glued it back together. I had a little touch up to do where the two halves met but it werked.

It is now 4”tall x 2” wide. It is make from Hickory and finished with Capt Eddies OB Shine Juice.

That is what I like about wood turning there is no plan you just keep changing the designs and finding new solutions for all of the problems you encounter kind of like life…if you embrace the changes it goes well…nice turning
