Google Maps Icon Birdhouse

Got a crazy idea a couple of weeks ago when using Google Maps. I saw the Icon they use for places and decided it looks kind of like a birdhouse. I think I should have stopped at that point. ;-)

The face is made of marine-grade ply and the container itself is a popcorn bucket I sprayed black.

A few cuts on the bandsaw, some sanding. A couple coats of paint and here it is! It’s around 14” high and 8” across.

To add a ton of strength to this, I sandwiched wooden discs on the inside of the bucket between the tree and the bottom as well as under the lid to attach to the face. To clean it, you just “remove the lid”. :-)

This might not be for everyone as it’s kind of “modern kitsch”, but my wife and I like it – let’s just see if the birds do in the spring.

Oh yeah – I DID do a Google search on this type of birdhouse and a guy in Japan is selling these made out of 100% injection molded plastic, so I’m not the first to think of it I guess.

Too Funny! Nicely implemented though.

HA…that’s pretty clever. I might have to make a few of these to put up at the cabin. Cool idea.

There is nothing wrong with imagination, you’ve done pretty good for yourself. Nice job.
