Project Information
This was a fun project to undertake. My brother moved into his first house and wanted to do something to create more eating space given the lack of formal dining room. After some thought I put together an idea on Sketchup and he and his girlfriend loved the idea.
The benches are built out of 3/4 plywood to avoid needing a frame. I added supports for the seats and hinged lids. This also added the benefit of extra storage in the kitchen. I used bead board for the back support and then built the table out of maple. The kitchen is a black and white theme so the trestle table base is stained with a General Finishes black stain.
The kitchen can now seat 10 people which more than satisfies their needs. The table top is pieced together hard maple and is 1 3/4" thick. All said and done I think it turned out well. There will be cushions for the benches and pillows to lean against.
Lumberjocks was a great help in looking at other projects for ideas.
