Here is a cherry and purple heart mallet I recently made. Turned out great and ready to start using. Here is my blog post.

Nice lookimg mallet. I really like purpleheart. It really setups up a nice accent with a lot of different woods.
You might want to glue a piece of leather on one or both faces. It will keep you from marring softer woods.

Bruce- Where do you get leather from? Do you know of anywhere to get it for a descent price?

It’s beautiful, like the wood combo and the shape on that mallet.

Tim, That’s a beefy mallet. I second the recommendation for leather.

For leather, do you have a Tandy’s near you? Or a Hobby Lobby? Or even a good will (buy an old leather bag or leather jacket and cut it up if they’re thick enough).

Go to your Mothers house and in the attic she has 10,000 old leather bags. Find one and ASK if you can have it, if you want to drive her crazy tell her it will look good on you!
