mahogany book shelfs

My baby just started to walk. I’ve had plans to make a book shelf for a while now. I had to change my plans and make a hanging bookshelf instead due to the danger of her pulling stuff down. The lowest shelf is about 4 feet off the floor, so by the time she is old enough to reach, it shouldn’t be an issue.

The shelf holders are made with solid mahogany. The shelves themselves are made with mahogany veneered plywood, edged with mahogany strips and biscuted together. I used a template for the shelf holders which I plan on keeping for any future projects. I used 3” screws on all the shelf holders for plenty of strength. All the shelf holders are on studs. This was the first project that I completed with my new impact driver. I love that thing. Don’t know how I survived with out it.

Take care and happy woodworking!

WOW! Nice job. The Mahogany looks great, also I like the shape of the brackets, thanks for showing this.
