This was the first piece I built for my new house (and wife). The only tools I had to do this with was a jigsaw, which is still easily my favorite tool and a 6V Black and Decker powered screwdriver with drill bit accessories and a whole bunch of sandpaper. Materials: Cheap solid pine boards from Lowes, screws, wood putty.

Very similar to the one I just made out of maple and birch ply.
