These are shots of two of a series of lamps I built in 2009 and 2010. We developed a composite reinforcement veneer with just the right optical properties. The panels are formed flat and heated to bend them. This was without question my favorite woodworking adventure. Everything is made from live edge scraps and other wood that would otherwise have gone to waste.

Great lamps! I’ve been wanting to build something similar to the one in the first few photos. Even built a small scale prototype of the shade but found that when I got the veneer thin enough for light to pass through (and large enough to be of use), it became too brittle to handle. Care to share your secret recipe for reinforcement “goop”?

a1Jim, DanoP, Thank you kindly!
DanoP, I would like to share my secret recipe, and I am just plain working way to hard. I am working on a plan to teach, well, everything I know, via videos on line. Of course they will be posted here. Right now I do feel protective of my secret for reinforcement simply because it is valuable and I am poor. Cheer me on for success with my teaching ventures – That will set me free.

Very creative and artistic designs on the lamps. Like the live edge and great salvage of the scraps. Good luck on your endeavors!
