So this is an experimental coffee table. I made it for a local spring festival a couple of weekends ago. The table is made from reclaimed White Oak and some Brazilian Cherry accents. Finished with BLO. The table has an outside frame and the inner slats sit on a center rail and float towards the outer frame but do not connect. The base has been painted a flat black, the legs are frames also that have a taper going towards the bottom. I really like the table, but there are few design things that I will work on, before it will become a production item. The table took me 15 hours to make.
Also I have just posted the first part of my box making series on my blog, so check it out at Kaleo's Workshop

Kaleo,
This is a nice table and, as I would expect of you, it is a unique design. The bc adds visual interest to the piece.
Well done.
Thanks for the box making blog too by the way. It was a nice introduction to box construction.

Interesting piece. I’m trying to get my head around the contrasting woods and the flat black base. It does catch the eye, for sure. Thanks for posting.

Kaleo, nice execution of your design. I would love to see the same design without the contrasting cherry.

it’s a nice table design Kaleo. I like the floating slats design. the black legs also help hightlight the top with the contrasting woods.

Kaleo…I realy like this table…The top drew me in, but the legs/base is very attractive as well.
One question—-how does the base feel stability wise—-I have a 14 month old and I could see her pulling up on the table and pulling it over…especially on carpet…

kaleo,
Another beautiful piece. It is reminecent of George Nelson’s iconic Nelson bench(in my humble opinion one of the best examples of modern design) but of course with your own personal spin. I really like the brazilian cherry accent. I love the fact that the slats float toward but do not touch the outside frame…great detail!

I really like the design on this one. The floating slats are a great design element.

I looked at this and said, “That looks like something Kaleo would have designed/built.” Sure enough. There’s something to be said for having a style that is associated with you. Very Nice.
