My league decided to start an ongoing league with a nice trophy to be passed year to year. The topper was bought from a trophy store, and the plates were engraved by a local engraver. For future years, 10 matching name plates were purchased so, at least, the next 10 winners will all match. A small drawer was built in the back for storing the extra plates. The drawer is lined with adhesive velvet from Rockler (the visible white is a square of packing foam). The springs on either side of the drawer are from a painter’s supply store, normally used for holding a canvas inside a frame. They were slightly trimmed and a 3/8” dado on the insides of the top tier allows a track for the drawer, as well as good tension on the springs to hold it in place. Two small earth magnets were also used to hold the drawer in place. The body is solid oak. Butt joints were used due to stupid saws. I can’t wait to win the lotto. India ink and multiple coats of shellac make up the finish, with a light buffing of 4/0 steel wool and soapy water.
