After long deliberation on which bench to build I opted for Mr. White’s New Fangled wkbench. I only have a small garage shop and space is at a premium. I needed a place to use my collection of handtool with enough space and clamping option which this bench should handle with flying colors. I wasn’t to excited about using Douglas Fir for the top but I decided that if I not satisfied with it I could later on replace it with a better top. For the ease of constructing and the value it really suprised me how sturdy it seam to be already. Many thanks to all the fellow jocks who posted their benches it help me in making my choice a easy one. Thanks to Jeff and Sawdustroad for their posting of Mr. White workbench, also a special thanks to my good lumberjock friend Pat for the use of a battery power circularsaw that I used at a local lumber yard to cut down the 24 footer to a managable sizes. I’m about 70 percent complete with the bench and if their anyone looking to make a sturdy and easy bench this my be the ticket. Blkcherry

Looks like you are off to a great start! This is a very interesting bench and a lot of fun to build. I built a similar, although somewhat modified version, for my shop. It was a great addition to the shop. Good luck! I will be following this with interest.

Great going, it’ll be a great bench. The work you do on it is more important. mike

We’ll be looking forward to seeing the top go on that bench. Let us know how you like the top and if you replace it, with what wood.

Your right wouldi the thought process in making a bench that suit your needs is a good portion of the joy in making a bench. I just completed the top and made a few ajustment in material for the well portion…using phenolic ply for the panels this will help with glue-up for keep the top clean…I’ll post some more pic soon…Blkcherry
